Seth Rollins: The Shield Dreamed Big And Without That, We Would’ve Never Gotten Here

Jon Moxley and Seth Rollins created a lot of great memories together during their time in The Shield.

Seth Rollins and Jon Moxley recently spoke with Graham Matthews of Bleacher Report to discuss the ten-year anniversary of The Shield. When asked about their expectations going into the group’s debut, Rollins said he believed going in that the three of them were going to take over the business.

“Our expectations upon our debut were that we were going to take over the business and we were going to reimagine it in our own vision,” Seth Rollins said. “That was goal No. 1 from day No. 1. And I think without that aspiration, without dreaming that big, we would’ve never gotten here. I know it sounds a little crazy, but where we’re at is pretty much where we envisioned ourselves 10 years ago,”

While you can never be sure about how things will play out, Moxley said he knew when they debuted that The Shield wasn’t going to be the endgame for these three men.

“Nobody can ever expect exactly how things are going to play out,” Jon Moxley said. “The Shield was never the endgame for us. It was more about, ‘Let’s get together and kick this door down and take what’s ours.’ Now, we’re all sitting pretty much exactly where we wanted to sit. You never know exactly how the future’s going to go, but more or less, yeah, this was exactly the plan from that day at Survivor Series.”

When it comes to regrets regarding The Shield, they don’t have many. Although Rollins admitted that he wished the trio would have done a better job managing the reunions even though some things were completely out of their control.

“I guess one regret would’ve been managing some of the reunions a little bit better and some of that was out of our control and there was nothing we could do,” Seth Rollins said. “It’s not ideal to have Kurt Angle in a Shield costume, but desperate times call for desperate measures, so we made the best of it and there’s something to be said for putting people in that role and being able to have the equity to do that.”

As fun as it is to look back on things like The Shield, Moxley said he’s looking to the future now and hopes to continue wrestling for as long as he can.

“Time flies, man, so don’t waste it because you always regret wasted opportunities,” he said. “I’m looking at the future now, I’m going to go as long as I can. The next 15 years, if I can make it that long, will be even better, because now I have the knowledge and experience that comes with life. I’m looking forward to the future because it can be anything I want it to be.”
