Jamie Hayter: AEW Women’s Title Win Is Extremely Validating, The Cherry On Top

Jamie Hayter‘s hard work has finally been validated.

Since joining the company last year, Hayter has slowly garnered the favor of All Elite Wrestling fans. Amidst her ascent, Hayter aligned herself with former AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker, often assisting the “D.M.D.” in title defenses during her run. But now, Hayter gets her own taste of gold.

At AEW Full Gear, Jamie Hayter challenged reigning Interim AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm for the title. In the end, Hayter issued a huge lariat to Storm, officially unseating her as the champion. With this victory, Jamie Hayter now earns the title of Interim AEW Women’s Champion. In a post-show media scrum, the new champion described how she felt after capturing the belt.

“Becoming the champion is extremely validating to myself because after working — everybody works hard in wrestling. Every single wrestler that goes out there, they work hard, they sacrificed, but when it happens to you, it’s almost a surreal moment because you never really think it’s going to happen,” she said.

“You never think you’re going to win a belt at a company. You never think you’re going to be signed to a company, you never think you’re going to achieve really anything. It’s just a pipe dream. I can’t even put into words how I feel right now. If my wrestling career ended tomorrow, God forbid, I would be so incredibly happy with everything that I’ve achieved. This is definitely the cherry on top of everything.”

This title win also marks Hayter’s overall first championship in AEW. Though she won various independent titles before, the British superstar explained her Full Gear victory felt “different.”

“I always imagined myself when I was a kid that I’d be crying and it will be crazy. But I feel very relaxed,” she noted. “I feel zen. It just feels right, you know? I’m very chill, that’s it. I thought I would be feeling all these crazy emotions, but I’m like, ‘Yeah, I did it,’ and that’s it. Nothing crazy. Nothing over the top. No tears, no nothing. It’s like I said, it’s validating. So when you feel validated, and it’s something that you worked very hard for, there’s no better feeling than that, and it just really puts you at peace.”
