Many fans are getting the match they have long awaited for. After successfully defending his IWGP United States Championship at NJPW x STARDOM Historic X-Over, Kenny Omega appeared on the screen with a message for Will Ospreay.
Omega stated that Ospreay failed to replace him as ‘the guy’ when he left in 2019 and that he is an ‘Omega knockoff’. His message was clear, that he would be returning to NJPW on January 4 after receiving a call from NJPW officials to compete at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Ospreay quickly accepted the challenge. It is unknown if it will be a title or non-title match. Omega has been away from NJPW since losing the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13.
The pair have only ever wrestled 1v1 in 2015 at PWG All Star Weekend 11 where Omega came out with the win. They were both involved in the same trios match in AEW a few months ago when The Elite took on Ospreay & Aussie Open. Ospreay was again on the losing end of the bout.
