The Watch List takes a look at what matches you should be watching and they come recommended by today’s professional wrestling stars.
WrestleZone recently spoke with Ethan Page, who took time to reflect on his TNT Championship match against Cody Rhodes. Page challenged Rhodes for the title on the New Year’s Smash episode of AEW Rampage on December 29, 2021, and he said that the match just clicked for the right reasons.
“Myself versus Cody Rhodes. It was the main event of New Year’s Smash Rampage, I believe. It’s like 10:00, so you ended up wrestling until nearly midnight. This was when this was a taped Rampage too, from Jacksonville. So we were after a Dynamite, [we went] on very last and it was one of the craziest crowds I’ve ever been in front of,” Page explained. “So like for me, for people to stay, hyped as hell for two hours of Elevation and two hours of Dynamite, and then an hour of Rampage with an insane lead-in [it was great]. By the way, that was the [same show] with the crazy women’s hardcore tag match with everyone bleeding everywhere.
“It was a crazy episode of Rampage, but to close that one out, and then also, like a very small, prideful tidbit, the ratings went up through the match. This is the last match, late night on Friday, so to draw in more viewers, that’s a testament to Cody. This is not me taking credit for it, but it takes two,” Page noted. “And it’s one of my favorite matches. It wasn’t too crazy either. It’s one that just clicked, and we have really good chemistry. And that’s one that if I could show to people, I’d be like, I go check that out.”
