Matt Cardona Misses Certain Elements Of WWE, Says His Indie Schedule Is Tougher

Matt Cardona carries himself as a star and it’s because of certain things he learned in WWE.

Speaking with Inside The Ropes, Matt Cardona spoke about how his lifestyle has changed on the independent scene. Cardona has maintained that he loves being his own boss and controlling his own destiny, but he still carries some lessons he learned in WWE.

“These two and a half years have been the hardest I’ve ever worked but have been the most fun, the most rewarding. I think all the titles I’ve won speaks for itself, the buzz I’ve created speaks for itself. I love being my own boss. I love making my own schedule, I love controlling my own destiny. Not everything I do is gonna be a home run. Some things will be a single. Sometimes I’ll strike out, but at least I try, at least I have that opportunity. All I’ve ever wanted was opportunity. What do I miss about WWE? Listen, WWE set me up for where I am today. I’m so grateful for my time in WWE. I’ve often said in interviews that WWE was my developmental, and that’s not a negative thing. That’s not a shot at WWE. Everything I’ve learned, I’ve learned through that WWE system, how to carry myself, how to be a superstar, how to work hard. That’s all from WWE. So I will forever credit them.”

Cardona then went on to say that his current schedule is harder than the WWE schedule, and he does still miss some things like wrestling in big arenas.

“But the thing I would miss about WWE, listen, I miss wrestling in arenas like Madison Square Garden. I miss wrestling in giant stadiums like at WrestleMania. I miss stuff like that. Also, believe it or not, for me personally, I can’t speak to anyone else on the indies, but when your schedule’s as busy as mine, I think the WWE schedule is easier than my independent schedule. I’d be on the road, okay, four days in WWE as opposed to now three, typically. But you fly in on a Friday, and you do all those long drives at night. You get to wake up whenever you want the next day. I was so used to that schedule. Now, there’s no rhyme or reason why I’m taking these bookings, so I’m flying cross country, I’m getting up every morning for an early flight. My schedule’s shot, my workouts are shot, my diet’s shot. But it is what it is, and I love it.”
