Sasha Banks Is One Of The First People Saraya Told About Her In-Ring Clearance

Saraya had recent contact with “The Boss.”

On the November 9th edition of AEW: Dynamite, Saraya dropped a huge announcement. For the first time in nearly five years, she is officially cleared to wrestle. In late 2017, the “Glampire’ suffered a stiff kick to the back of her surgically repaired neck during a six-woman tag team match in Uniondale, New York. That respective kick was delivered by former Smackdown Women’s Champion, Sasha Banks. Ultimately, Saraya formally retired from professional wrestling due to further she sustained damage to her neck.

In the years following, Saraya, formerly known as Paige, recalled the incident as an accident, never directing blame towards Banks. When Saraya received official word of her in-ring clearance, she delivered the news to Sasha Banks. “She was one of the first people I text[ed] because all that stuff, that can mentally f*** someone up, to end someone’s career,” she revealed on The Sessions With Renee Paquette.

“A lot of people pitched us against each other after that, all her fans would attack me, all my fans–well, not all my fans, but there’s a very small percentage, they would attack each other, and they’re always the loudest. They were going at it, and they still go at it. They still send me tweets being like, ‘I’m so happy Sasha broke your neck.’ People are tweeting at her being like, ‘How dare you end someone’s career. You’re unsafe.’ She’s not unsafe. It’s an accident. It happens in wrestling.”

Saraya then read the text she sent to Banks, noting both their excitement for Saraya’s impending in-ring return. “I just said, ‘Hey sis, I just want to let you know, since I know this whole thing was tough on you mentally, but my doctor cleared me and told me my neck is 100% ready to go. I haven’t told anyone else, but I know this will make you feel good. I’m back, haha.’ She was like, ‘I’m so happy.’ She was over the moon and stuff like that. I said to her, ‘I don’t want you to feel bad anymore.'”

“I had that period of time away and actually was for the best in the long run because I had time to really focus on myself, get healthy, get sober, start branching out and doing other things. Felt like it was meant to be and my neck healed in record time. It was five years, and I’m officially back. I think that’s pretty f***ing inspiring.”

Saraya will officially make her in-ring return on November 19th at AEW Full Gear. There, she takes on Dr. Britt Baker DMD in her first match since December 2017.
