Davey Richards: Billy Corgan Is A Godsend To Wrestling, He’s Not Afraid To Make Things Happen

Davey Richards will return to the National Wrestling Alliance at Hard Times 3 this month to wrestle Colby Corino, but how did this matchup come about?

MLW National Openweight Champion Davey Richards was a recent guest on The Battleground Podcast to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his recent work with the National Wrestling Alliance, Richards revealed it came about due to him working the IMPACT Wrestling Slammiversary pay-per-view earlier this year and meeting Billy Corgan backstage.

“As people know right now, I’m under contract with MLW, and IMPACT Wrestling had wanted to use me for their Slammiversary pay-per-view. And Billy Corgan happened to be there,” Davey Richards said. “After my match, I’m always the guy that does his match and leaves right away because I have another career and I wear many hats.

“So, he caught me, and we talked a little bit, and I was like, ‘You’re coming to St. Louis. That’s where I’m based out of right now. And we have a really vibrant scene here. My team, Team Ambition, is doing great things, and if you need anyone else.’ All of a sudden, we started talking about me coming on the show and defending the MLW National Openweight Title, and Billy’s just, he’s such a godsend for the wrestling business because not only is he passionate about it, but he’s not afraid just to pull the trigger and make things happen.

“Like, there’s always going to be a reason not to do something in life. But he’s a guy like, hey, if we can find a way, let’s find a way, and we found a way to make it work. And when they came here to St. Louis, and it was awesome, man. I got to wrestle in The Chase, and I had a great match; I had so much fun. And then Billy had talked to me and, ‘Hey, have you ever wrestled Colby Corino?’ And I’m like, no.

“He’s like, he just did a like a press conference or some kind of fan interaction thing before the show and said it was one of his goals to wrestle you, and I’m like, really? And so I can’t remember if I hit him up or he hit me up. Billy Corgan, I’m referring to, and we made it happen for New Orleans, and we’re on.”
