Davey Richards Comments On If He’ll Challenge Chris Jericho For The ROH Championship

Will Davey Richards walk through the Forbidden Door to challenge Chris Jericho for the Ring of Honor World Championship tonight on AEW Dynamite?

MLW National Openweight Champion Davey Richards was a recent guest on The Battleground Podcast to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the possibility of him being the mystery man to challenge Chris Jericho for the Ring of Honor World Championship on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Richards would neither confirm nor deny his involvement because he believes that ruins the fun.

“No, because that takes away the fun of it,” Davey Richards said. “I plead the fifth. I’m just taken aback by it because it’s been like — I know this sounds like such an arrogant move, but I hope people know me enough by now to know that I’m not an arrogant person, but if it’s anyone but me, I feel like people are gonna be disappointed because there’s — I’m so blessed. There’s been such a vocalization that it should be Davey. That should be Davey. So like, Man, I’m just, wow. I mean, for people to still want to see me do that. Like, that’s so cool, man. Yeah, that’s motivation.”

When asked about what he thought a match with Jericho would be like, Richards said it would be magic. He also expressed his desire to work for a bigger company before his wrestling career comes to an end.

“It would be magic,” Davey Richards said. “I haven’t said this, so I guess I might as well say it now. I’m very blessed because I have another career. I’m a physician. And when I came back to wrestling, I didn’t know if I really wanted to do it full-time or if people even want to see me, and I just don’t want to be that. I mean, my work rate is most important. I didn’t want to be that guy. It was like, you go see a band. It was like, oh, man; they should have hung that up a while ago.

“But I feel better than ever, and I want to eventually go to a bigger company. Preferably with Eddie [Edwards], but he’s got a really good deal with IMPACT, and I don’t know what the future lies, but that’s definitely a goal to me. And for the right reasons, because it’s not just about the money. My main job at this stage in wrestling is to give back to wrestling to help out people. And I really feel like I can do that. And I can also wrestle. Yeah, so we’ll see what happens, and if it works out, great. And if not, then I’m nothing but grateful.”
