Britt Baker Has A Batman/Joker Dynamic In Her Relationship With Thunder Rosa

Dr. Britt Baker DMD and Thunder Rosa have created one of the biggest rivalries in All Elite Wrestling since the company’s inception.

Baker and Rosa first battled at the 2021 St. Patrick’s Day Slam edition of Dynamite. There, “La Mera Mera” defeated the “DMD” in a grueling “Lights Out” match that left Baker’s face slathered in blood. The two would battle off and on over the next year until meeting for the AEW Women’s World Championship–which Baker held at that point. After a second title match, Thunder Rosa finally defeated once again to capture the gold on the 2022 edition of St. Patrick’s Day Slam.

In a recent appearance on the Swerve City Podcast, Britt Baker opened up about the on-screen dynamic with Thunder Rosa, comparing themselves to a famous pair of archrivals.

“We always say it’s kind of like the Batman and Joker type,” she said. “One needs the other for the success story to happen. We don’t like each other. There’s always tension but that tension makes good TV”. Despite their undeniable television drawing, Baker continued to affirm that “I still think it’s my division.”

In recent months, reports have emerged that the tensions between the duo went beyond the wrestling ring though. Upon Thunder Rosa’s recent injury and subsequent absence from AEW programming, Baker discussed her similar experience battling injuries. However, she pointed out a noticeable difference in her case.

“I never missed any episodes of TV, with every broken bone and injury and this and that. I’m just saying. What bone have I not broken at this point? My leg, my nose twice now, my wrist, I had a  concussion, and I was at work every week because that is where I wanted to be. I had my nose surgery on a Monday. Dynamite was on a Wednesday, and I was there cutting a promo because I wanted to be [there].”

“Tony [Khan], he’s the most caring and wonderful guy, but I was like ‘no, this is an opportunity, I’m going to have a black eye.’ [I’m] sick in the head and thought ‘I’m going to look cool.’ My face is broken and bruised, and I thought ‘I should do a promo on TV, that’ll be cool.”

“I have a very competitive mentality, but I also hold myself accountable, because I was put in a position to succeed. If I drop the ball with that, then that’s on me. It’s very much a sink-or-swim environment in AEW. I’ve been given the opportunities to sink or swim, but I’m swimming. Nobody can say that I’m not capitalizing on every opportunity that’s given to me.”
