Shawn Michaels On Training With Logan Paul: I Jumped At The Opportunity

Shawn Michaels says he enjoyed working with Logan Paul, and he described his mindset surrounding the latter’s training.

Ahead of Paul’s match with Roman Reigns at WWE Crown Jewel, WWE shared pictures of the social media megastar training with the Hall of Famer.

During the media call ahead of NXT Halloween Havoc, Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy asked Michaels about the training. Michaels made it clear that he had fun working with Paul, and he praised the way the WWE newcomer works hard. Michaels also noted that Paul’s star power has expedited the training process.

“Working with him really was fun,” Michaels said. “He’s a bright kid. I didn’t know him. I’m a square, obviously. I know of him, but I saw what he did at ‘Mania, and I just thought, clearly you could tell he was somebody that committed. I know the stuff he’s done in the past with the boxing. When he jumps into something, he’s gonna go all in. He works really hard, so I was curious to see how much time and effort he was putting into this. Like I said, he requested this. I jumped at the opportunity because I was just really curious. But he’s actually, again, he’s a nice kid.

“Clearly he’s bright. He does work really hard. Obviously he’s got a big platform, so he comes in a certain spot, shall we say, that none of our young talent is gonna come in at. You sort of have to put the cart before the horse with somebody like him. You come in, he’s in this match at WrestleMania, so you kind of maybe just train him for what he’s going to do there at that one match.”

Michaels went on to describe how the fundamentals are an important part of training, as they can help talent string the aspects of their education together. He then joked that he felt like the cool kid in class when he worked with Paul.

“That’s one of the things he and I talked about yesterday was, ‘Hey, while you’re doing this, we gotta go back and make sure we teach you some of those foundational, fundamental principles that will better link all of this stuff together,” Michaels said. “Because of his popularity, they kind of start him like five years down the road, but he’s still in day one or whatever, the first six months training-wise.

“So that’s one of the things that I felt, again, if we could go back and teach him some of the fundamentals, I think that will really help him kind of understand at a better level how you link all those other pieces that he’s learning together. Again, I found him to be a very bright kid, nice guy. He’s got a great crew around him. They seem to be good boys, so it was a lot of fun, I don’t know, getting to be the cool kid in class for a day was pretty cool yesterday.”
