Ronda Rousey Pitched Thumbtack Spot At Extreme Rules But It Was Turned Down

The Extreme Rules matchup between Ronda Rousey and Liv Morgan didn’t exactly go the way Rousey originally envisioned it.

On Ronda Rousey’s latest YouTube gaming stream, The Baddest Woman on the Planet spoke in-depth about her Extreme Rules match with Liv Morgan. During the discussion, Rousey talked about how she felt bad hitting Morgan across her butt with a baseball bat over and over again but didn’t want to potentially injure her body by hitting her with it on her back or her ribs.

“You know what’s so funny? It’s a bat. You kind of have to be careful where you hit people with it, and I felt bad because Liv [Morgan] was in a position when I was supposed to be whacking her with a bat, and I’m like, if I hit her in the back, I could really mess up her spine,” Ronda Rousey said. “If I hit her in the rib, I think it’ll break a rib. I’m like, I’m just gonna keep hitting her in the ass. I just kept whacking the sh*t out of her butt [Rousey laughed]. Kind of felt bad later, like yeah, her butt must look bad today.”

Rousey also revealed the finish of the match she proposed was much different than what we ended up seeing as The Baddest Woman on the Planet initially wanted to involve thumbtacks, but WWE management turned it down.

“Yeah, actually I pitched the finish to be on thumbtacks [at Extreme Rules but it was turned down],” Ronda Rousey said. “She [Liv Morgan] put down thumbtacks and powerbomb me onto the thumbtacks, and then as a repeat of our finish before, I would go for the armbar on the thumbtacks, but they start counting the pin, but then I would have to push up onto my one shoulder, like into the thumbtacks to keep the armbar on… and Liv would be biting her hand trying not to tap and then pass out face down into the thumbtacks and have her hand there to protect her face. But they said we can’t do thumbtacks anymore. That legally, we can’t purposely injure people and cut their skin and stuff. I don’t know, so I was like, ‘Well, how about tiny, little maple leaf pins?’ They’re like, ‘No.’ I’m like, ‘How about a bunch of screws? There on the side, it’s the ground.’ They said, ‘Nope.’ So…”

The finish saw Liv Morgan pass out smiling in a submission hold by Ronda Rousey. The newly crowned SmackDown Women’s Champion joked that a lot of people would have been smiling in Morgan’s position on Saturday night.

“I mean, let’s be honest, a lot of people would be smiling in that position [Rousey laughed about Liv Morgan smiling before losing at Extreme Rules],” Ronda Rousey said. “But yeah, I mean, it was kind of handy that there was a broken table right there that I could grab and grind into her neck, but apparently, she’s into that kind of thing.” [H/T: POST Wrestling]

It’s a shame the thumbtacks didn’t come into play as Rousey described, as Morgan said she was prepared to do a spot using them in an interview previewing the event.
