Daniel Cormier On Potentially Facing Brock Lesnar: I’d Have To Get In Fighting Shape First

Daniel Cormier discusses his experience at WWE Extreme Rules and says he’d be open to potentially doing more with the company. Plus, he comments on a potential match with Brock Lesnar.

The UFC Hall of Famer appeared on the October 3 episode of WWE RAW after Ariel Helwani broke the news that he’d be the special guest referee for the Fight Pit Match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at Extreme Rules. On Saturday, Cormier officiated the bout and briefly got physical during the contest; in one highlight, he forcibly pulled Riddle away from Rollins.

Speaking with The Associated Press, Cormier reflected on his experienced and praised Riddle and Rollins.

“Those guys are so talented,” Cormier said. “They knew exactly what they were going to do and I was just trying to stay out of the way. I didn’t want to get in the way and mess something up.”

Cormier is known to be a fan of WWE, and he has previously commented on his interest in getting involved. Now that he has had a prominent role on WWE TV, he’s open to doing more with the company. He noted that, at this stage in his career, any opportunity would need to start happening soon.

“I’m still at an age where there are some opportunities, but those opportunities need to start now if they’re going to be something I pursue,” Cormier said.

The former UFC Heavyweight Champion also expressed that he’s interested in a potential match with Brock Lesnar, something fans have been buzzing about since Cormier called “The Beast Incarnate” out in 2018. When discussing this possible clash, he made it clear that he’d have to get in shape first, but the door isn’t closed on anything right now.

“I’ve been retired for a couple of years and I look like it,” Cormier said. “But I’d have to get in shape if I ever want to do something like that. The door is not closed on anything right now in my life.”
