Report: Backstage Response To Bray Wyatt’s WWE Return

The wrestling world is still buzzing about Bray Wyatt‘s return to WWE, and the company was reportedly happy with how the remarkable moment turned out.

The former WWE Universal Champion was released on July 31, 2021, and throughout his time away from the company, fans wondered if he’d ever come back. This speculation ramped up when Vince McMahon retired on July 22 and Triple H took over as the head of creative. In recent weeks, QR codes leading to clues about Wyatt have popped up on WWE programming as part of the White Rabbit mystery, setting the stage for his arrival at WWE Extreme Rules. There, he emerged at the end of the show and received a thunderous ovation.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that, according to WWE sources, Wyatt’s return was “very well received”, and the company was pleased the buzz the QR codes and vignettes generated ahead of the show.

Sapp noted that, only a week after McMahon’s retirement, WWE sources stated that they felt optimistic about Wyatt’s return. A month before it became a reality, one source was convinced that Wyatt was coming back.

Additionally, Wyatt being brought back was handled somewhat differently; some people who are usually in the know were left out of the loop regarding the meaning behind the hints in the White Rabbit videos until the week of Extreme Rules. Sapp also wrote that standard WWE creative was mostly hands off with the vignettes, but some references had to get the green light.
