Masha Slamovich: A Properly Done Deathmatch Is A Beautiful Sight, I Find Joy In Them

Masha Slamovich believes deathmatch wrestling, when done right, can be a beautiful thing.

IMPACT Wrestling’s Masha Slamovich was a recent guest on Busted Open Radio with Dave LaGreca and Thunder Rosa to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about what draws her to compete in deathmatches, Slamovich said it’s something she gets a rush from.

“It’s a place where I can just unleash even more, you know, go crazy, and I just feel like I get a rush from it,” Masha Slamovich said. “There’s really nothing like being in those environments and feeling that glass crunching, being very aware of the senses around you. Smell the iron in the air from the blood. You know it sounds a little intense when you describe it, but I really find myself finding joy in those environments.”

LaGreca brings up that a lot of wrestling fans don’t understand the art of the deathmatch and that a lot of storytelling goes into those types of matches. This is something Slamovich agreed with but chalked the perception up to people who wrestle those matches poorly.

“That’s correct. And it is true that a lot of people don’t understand deathmatch, and they think it’s just it lacks any kind of sense, and it’s just swinging weapons,” Masha Slamovich said. “However, there are also wrestlers in places where they shouldn’t be doing deathmatches, and presenting deathmatch poorly and lead people to believe this. But I think a deathmatch done correctly with proper storytelling is an absolutely beautiful sight.”

While discussing her Knockouts Title match at Bound For Glory against Jordynne Grace, Slamovich said to expect to see something beautiful and violent tonight.

“I definitely think you’re right that we’re gonna see something really beautiful and violent tonight,” Masha Slamovich said. “And like you said, there is a stigma in deathmatch that, ‘oh, those wrestlers don’t know how to wrestle.’ And it couldn’t be further from the truth because there are so many hidden gems who are wonderful mat technicians, wonderful storytellers who choose to do the styles that they love, which would be deathmatch. But given the chance to show their versatility. I think a lot of people from deathmatch would shine.”
