There were certainly a lot of characters in the ECW locker room, and The Sandman was no exception.
Steve Corino was a recent guest on Wrestling Then And Now to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about sharing a locker room with The Sandman, Corino had some funny stories about the ECW legend.
“Sandman would do things where he’d come up with these scenarios, and some of them didn’t make sense or — he was so smart, but he’s so dumb at times too,” Steve Corino said. “Raven would have these conversations about whose IQ is higher, and I’m thinking, ‘Well, I don’t even want to hang out with either one of you!’
“But Sandman would have these conversations on the road with you that like he’d asked you — I remember when we met, I worked in a dairy while trying to break into independent wrestling, and he’d be like, ‘Yo, how do you pasteurized milk?’ And he was so into how to pasteurize milk, and I would go over the process. And it’d be like three months down the line; somebody would have milk, right? He’d be like, ‘Hah, let me tell you the pasteurization system of milk here…’
“He’s one of those guys that like loved knowledge. He’d play chess in the locker room, and by beer 36, he was still playing. But he was a lot of fun. He just loved to be out there and entertain the people. That’s all he cared about was just making sure that people went home happy.”
