Trevor Murdoch says people underestimate him because nothing about him is normal.
Murdoch is the reigning NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion; he won the title for the second time at NWA Alwayz Ready. He is the face of the NWA, and he will face a tough test at Hard Times 3 when he defends the gold against Tyrus and Matt Cardona.
Speaking on the NWA’s weekly podcast, This is the NWA Weekly, the champion was asked what he thinks it is about him that makes people underestimate him. He responded by describing how nothing about him is normal, and he has embraced his individuality by finding his own space.
“Because I’m not normal, gentlemen,” Murdoch said. “There’s nothing about that I do [that’s] normal. There’s nothing normal about the way I talk to you, there’s normal about the way I look, there’s normal about the way I wrestle. But the end of the day, I still get the pay-off, right? We still get that moment when I’m on the mic, we still get that moment when I’m stepping in the ring, and gentlemen, it’s something that used to infuriate me.
“It used to keep me up at night, especially in my first title run. I’m not gonna sit here and bulls— nobody. Kyle, you and I had personal discussions on the whole Twitter bullsh—. I did, I let it get to my head. But the one piece of advice that Nick Aldis gave me when I first became world champion is, he said you’ll find a zone. You’ll find a space where you won’t care what anybody’s thinking, what anybody’s doing. You won’t care who they put in front of you. The only thing you’ll think about is how you’re gonna beat them, and gentlemen, that’s exactly where I’m at right now.
Murdoch went on to describe how he’s been going to the gym because he’s in the zone, and he’s focused on preparing for NWA Hard Times 3
“Every minute I’m there, I’m thinking about how I’m gonna kick the s— out of Cardona and and Tyrus,” Murdoch said. “I go to the gym, and I’m pushing that weight because I hate the gym, I hate it. Everything about me, it says I am bit a gym guy. But since I’ve won this world title, I’ve been in that gym more than I ever have. I hate every bit of it, but I know what I gotta do to be the man. The whole time, I’m thinking about those two goofs. I’m in my zone, gentlemen, and I’m prepared for anything that’s put in front of me.”
