Matt Taven Shares The Inspiration Behind Him Wearing Purple

Matt Taven has a good reason for making purple part of his in-ring look.

Taven recently spoke to WrestleZone and explained why he made purple his trademark color. The Kingdom (now OGK) inspires thoughts about royalty, so that would be an obvious link to the color. As Taven pointed out, many of the rivals for his New England sports teams wear purple, but he actually chose to keep it for a more personal reason.

“If anything, it’s a lot of Boston sports teams rivals — the Lakers, the Ravens — [that have that color]. I get some flak sometimes, especially at certain points of the year by the fellow Bostonians over the purple thing,” Taven noted. “But purple kind of was one of those things that happened originally organically. We as members of the Kingdom, it’s a royal colour and we were trying out a bunch of different outfits and purple kind of for me was always one that I thought looked good. When we came back in the second version of the Kingdom, I kind of made it a decree like, ‘OK, we’re going to stick with this color theme.’

“It just kind of happened to happen at the same time as my uncle, who I was very close with, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We did fundraisers and it was all purple gear and the purple ribbons and stuff like that. Unfortunately, he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer, and it was [continued] as just kind of as a little tribute to him. I made it a decree from that day forward. I would always wear purple in honor of him. So it’s a little shout out to my uncle that was always very supportive and helpful as I was coming up on the Indies, and it’s just kind of become my trademark at this point.”
