JD McDonagh has earned another NXT Championship match.
On the September 20 edition of WWE NXT, JD McDonagh beat Tyler Bate in the main event to once again become number one contender to Bron Breakker’s NXT Championship. After the match, Ilja Dragunov made a surprise appearance to confront both McDonagh and Breakker in the ring.

Dragunov suffered a foot injury over the summer and had to vacate the NXT UK Championship in July as a result. Tyler Bate went on to win the vacant title before Breakker won a championship unification match at NXT Worlds Collide.
Ilja Dragunov has made a handful of stateside NXT appearances over the last few years. It was at NXT TakeOver 36 in August 2021 where he defeated Walter to capture the NXT UK title.
