AEW president Tony Khan heavily hinted that the upcoming Winter is Coming special will be held in Texas again.
In 2021, AEW Dynamite Winter is Coming emanated from the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, TX.
Appearing on 105.3 The Fan, Khan was discussing the special Grand Slam show in New York, and when the hosts brought up Winter is Coming, he shared his hope for the event to return to the Dallas area this year.
“I gotta tell you, I really love this tradition we built around the holidays. I love coming out in December to Dallas every year, and if that viewership’s pretty good, if people around Dallas and we’re getting those Nielsen numbers and it’s looking good, I got a good feeling about coming back and bringing Winter is Coming back to Dallas again this year. So keep up the good work, watching Wednesday night Dynamite tomorrow, watching Friday night Rampage. I do think, if the numbers on TBS and TNT stay where they’re at and you all keep doing a great job watching the shows and supporting us, why not? Let’s keep it going. I love the Dallas market and I think there’s a good chance we’re gonna come back again and do Winter is Coming again this year. So let’s do it.”
When asked about MJF potentially appearing at Grand Slam and/or Winter is Coming, Khan named Dallas as the potential location for the latter.
“Well I think there’s a very good chance he would come be in Dallas,” Khan said. “He was away for a while while there were some things happening, and now he’s back. The guy you referred to as the jerk in the scarf, I do think there’s a good chance you’ll see him appearing at Winter is Coming later.”
Later in the conversation, Khan again noted that he’d like to see Winter is Coming become an annual event in the area, as he said, “As we get closer and closer to the big Winter is Coming event that I think is looking to become hopefully an annual around the Metroplex, I think that’s very, very exciting stuff.”
A specific date and venue have not been announced for AEW Winter is Coming 2022. WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
