MJF wants to be the best wrestler in the world and that means he studies the competition instead of ignoring it.
The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani recently had MJF on as a guest, and part of the conversation focused on the best wrestler in the world. Helwani mentioned Roman Reigns is #1 in this year’s PWI 500 list, and MJF said that he is OK with it.
“He’s a stud, a total stud,” MJF stated.
MJF then took issue with people scoffing at him being a fan of Reigns’ work, noting that tribalism makes fans (and talent) very stupid in the long run.
“Who is not a fan? Again, with this tribalism thing. Just because wrestlers are in a different company doesn’t mean they can’t watch another product. That’s silly,” MJF said. “If you’re a student of the game, you should be ashamed of yourself. I watch everything. I watch stuff that’s going on right now, I watch stuff from all the way back in the past. I watch World Class [Championship Wrestling], I watch Mid-South, I watch AWA. If — how the hell are you going to be the best version of yourself if you don’t study your craft?
“So whoever has made eye contact with you and proclaimed that they don’t watch [the competition], if they’re telling the truth, they’re an idiot. And if they’re lying, they’re an idiot because they’re just trying to look cool, and they don’t look cool to me, they look very stupid for not studying. And that’s my opinion on that.”
MJF was then asked what the best era of wrestling is, and he said it’s today for one big reason.
“Right now, and I will tell you why. Can I tell you why? I can’t lie. Now, because MJF is on TV, and that’s a fact. I am the greatest thing to ever happen in the history of this business,” MJF stated.
