Seth Rollins and Edge busted out an impressive trilogy of matches last year.
Upon Edge’s shocking return to professional wrestling in the ring in early 2020, many hoped “The Rated R Superstar” would formally encounter Seth Rollins. Rollins previously teased a feud with Edge on-screen back in 2014. There, Seth Rollins threatened to crush Edge’s surgically repaired neck with his Money in the Bank briefcase. In 2021, this rivalry would finally come to life. In speaking on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Seth Rollins praised his recent run with Edge.
“The Edge story just sort of brought out the best,” Rollins admitted. “I think Edge and I are so very similar on screen and backstage. We just have very similar mindsets. I think because I was working with him, someone who was very trusted, I was allowed to–and my character had already kind of planted some seeds in the ground–I was allowed to be a little bit more off the rails. Then it just blossomed from there.”
The former WWE Champion continued on to speak candidly about working with the “The Iconoclast”. Accordingly, Rollins admitted it was “better than [he] expected.”
“It was better than I expected, to be honest with you,” Rollins explained. “When we did the segment eight years ago or whatever it was now where I had put his head on the briefcase and then threatened to end his life as one does. I never really expected it to turn into anything. There was never a possibility that he was going to come back. I don’t think the thought was ever in his head either. So, I know being on the shortlist for him when he did come back, of people that he wanted to work with, that was always a privilege for me.”
“I think we both had these ideas of what the story could be like or what it could turn into. But I think working together, especially what kind of moments we were able to produce with the matches as well as the story, I think it exceeded both of our expectations. I had a whole lot of fun kind of doing that trilogy. I suspect that we may cross paths again at some point before he hangs them up for good. Don’t know what his timeline is as far as retirement and stuff like that, but I feel like any time you see us on camera together again, whenever it does happen, if it happens, it’s like it writes itself, it’s there.”
