More details have come to light about the reported confrontation between CM Punk and The Young Bucks.
At the media scrum following AEW All Out, Punk, who won the AEW World Championship in the main event of the show, opened up about his previous relationship with Colt Cabana. He took several shots at former AEW World Champion Hangman Page and the company’s EVPs, presumably Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. As previously reported, the latter trio confronted Punk after the scrum, and it turned into what has been described as a “melee.”
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has reported more information about the situation. He confirmed previous allegations that Steel bit Omega, Punk threw punches, and Nick Jackson got hit in the eye by a chair. However, it’s unclear who started the physical confrontation, with some sources noting that Punk should have expected to be approached, whereas others expressed their belief that Omega and the Bucks “aggressively approached” Punk in what he could have viewed as a situation where he’d be outnumbered. Brandon Cutler, Christopher Daniels, and Pat Buck were named as those who tried to diffuse the conflict.
None of the sources Fightful has reached have stated that they’ve heard from Tony Khan in the aftermath of the melee, though potential legal issues may be a factor in the delayed official response. Sapp wrote that the Hoffman Estates Police Department responded when Fightful reached out and noted that they don’t have any documentation that the police were requested for anything that allegedly happened backstage.
Of the talent Sapp spoke to, most of the talent haven’t been in favor of the way Punk handled the situation. Sapp also addressed the rumors of a potential injury to Punk, with the rumor being “heard of” from those in the company, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Due to the controversy, several members of the roster aren’t sure about their creative ahead of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday. Sapp cited multiple longtime AEW wrestlers who expressed that they can’t see how Punk couldn’t be released after this situation.
Steven Muehlhausen of DAZN News reports that sides are being taken in the situation, with some sharing the belief that if anyone gets punished, the talent involved should use their EVP titles. One source noted that EVPs should set the example for everyone else. Others reportedly feel that Punk should be fired for his actions. Additionally, Muehlhausen noted that he hasn’t heard anything about any potential injury to Punk during the scrum.
WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
