Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: WWE Takes Over The UK, It’s Toni’s Time, Mickie James’ Last Rodeo

AEW goes All Out. WWE takes over the United Kingdom. Mickie James gears up for her last rodeo, and more. Let’s break it all down in this week’s edition of Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up!

AEW All Out: Toni Storm Wins Interim Women’s Championship, Jade Cargill Defends TBS Championship

All Elite Wrestling presented their annual All Out pay-per-view over the weekend. Hosted in Chicago, Illinois, two championship bouts highlighted the AEW women’s division.

AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa recently shared that she would be not medically cleared to compete ahead of All Out. Therefore, a fatal-four-way match would determine an interim champion. On Sunday, Jamie Hayter, Toni Storm, Britt Baker, and Hikaru Shida competed to become the interim champion.

Toni Storm was originally slated to challenge Thunder Rosa for AEW Women’s Championship at the event. Despite the match format change, it was still Toni Time.

Throughout the impressive showcase, all four competitors came within milliseconds of capturing the gold. In a near close fall, Jamie Hayter covered Hikaru Shida, only for Britt Baker to pull the referee out of the ring, squandering her ally’s hopes of victory. Shortly after, Baker would then attempt a pinfall on Hayter, who powered out just before the three count. In the end though, Toni Storm would land a DDT on Jamie Hayter to secure the victory.

A full recap of the Interim Women’s Championship match can be read below, courtesy of our live coverage page.

AEW Interim Women’s World Championship Match: Britt Baker (with Rebel) vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Toni Storm vs. Jamie Hayter

The action quickly gets underway, as Storm takes the fight to Hayter and Shida focuses on Baker. Storm dropkicks Hayter. Shida takes control with a knee to Hayter. The competitors trade pin attempts. Hayter locks Shida in a single crab, and Baker goes for the Lockjaw, but Storm stops her. Baker drops Storm with a slingblade. Hayter gains the upper hand with a flurry of offense. She suplexes Shida and Storm. Storm and Shida are left alone in the ring, and they feel each other out.

Shida kips up after a shoulder tackle, and they trade blows. Rebel gets in the ring, and the two women headbutt her. Hayter and Baker enter the ring and take control. Hayter carries Shida up the ramp, and Baker stops her. Doctors check on Shida and help her to the back. Back in the ring, Baker and Hayter gang up on Storm. She fights back and dives onto Hayter for a two count. Baker and Hayter work together to ground Storm. Shida comes back to the ring, carrying two kendo sticks, and she hits her opponents.

Shida slams Baker into Hayter. She superplexes Hayter for a two count. Storm drops Baker with a boot and gets caught with a dropkick from Hayter. The four women trade blows, and Shida wins the exchange. She gets a two count with a Falcon Arrow. Hayter floors Storm with a piledriver. Baker drops Shida with a neckbreaker and stomps her for a two count. Hayter nearly scores the win, but Baker pulls the referee out of the ring. Storm hits the Storm Zero and Baker pins Hayter for a two count. Storm pins Hayter with a DDT.

Jade Cargill Extends Winning Streak

Also on the All Out card, Jade Cargill defended the TBS Championship against Athena.

In a quick-paced matchup, Athena landed an O-Face early on in the bout. Before Athena could land the pinfall, Leila Grey and Kiera Hogan pulled Jade to safety. Despite the subsequent back-and-forth action, Jade Cargill’s strength proved to be too much for Athena. As Cargill hit a boot and a Jaded, she gained the victory.

Therefore, Jade Cargill remains TBS Champion.

WWE Takes Over The UK: Clash At The Castle, NXT Worlds Collide

Clash At The Castle

WWE took over the United Kingdom this weekend with two premiere events: Clash At The Castle and NXT Worlds Collide.

On Saturday, six of the best competitors kicked off the main show of WWE Clash at the Castle. WWE RAW Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, Asuka, and Alexa Bliss squared off with Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY (Damage Control). Each competitor impressed as the Cardiff crowd cheered on in awe.

Despite a loss in the finals of WWE Women’s Tag Team Tournament the previous Monday, Damage Control bounced back. Bayley brought out the Rose Plant before IYO SKY landed her signature moonsault. This allowed Bayley to capitalize, gaining the pinfall on Bianca Belair.

This closing moment also marked an important bragging right for Bayley as well. For the first time since November of 2021, Bianca Belair has officially been pinned.

The closing moments of the match can be read below, courtesy of our play-by-play coverage:

Bayley goes after Belair’s hair. Bliss and Asuka stand o Belair’s back to deliver a superplex. Fallaway slam by Belair. Kai tries a scorpion kick but Belair reverses it into a powerbomb. Kai lands the scorpion kick. Belair picks up Kai for the KOD. Sky pulls Kai off of Belair’s shoulder. Bayley and Sky hold Belair in place while Kai lands her running boot. Bayley hits the Rose Plant on Belair. Sky follows that with the Over the Moonsault on Belair. Bayley pins Belair.

Winners- Damage Control

Also on the Clash At The Castle card, Liv Morgan defended her Smackdown Women’s Championship. Going against “The Queen of Spades” Shayna Baszler, Morgan met her biggest challenge yet.

Trapped in a string of submission holds, Morgan managed to escape Baszler’s best. Morgan continued an impressive showcase of endurance throughout the matchup. In the end, Liv Morgan finally prevailed after landing an Oblivion on Shayna.

Here are the final moments of the match, courtesy of our play-by-play coverage:

Baszler tries to stomp on Morgan’s arm but Morgan turns it into a triangle. Morgan turns that into a cross-armbar. Baszler escapes and stomps on Morgan’s arm. Gut wrench facebuster by Baszler. Baszler knees Morgan in the face. Morgan kicks out. Morgan slips out of an armbar by Baszler on the top.

Baszler’s arm is trapped. Morgan slams Baszler’s arm into the top turnbuckle. Morgan lands a running powerbomb but Baszler turns that into the Kirifuda Clutch. Baszler can’t hold on because of her injured arm. Morgan eventually hit her finish for the win.

Winner – Liv Morgan

NXT Worlds Collide

Mandy Rose is officially the Unified NXT Women’s Champion.

On Sunday, WWE held their NXT Worlds Collide premium live event, with a high-stakes triple threat match. NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose battled NXT UK Women’s Champion Meiko Satomura and Blair Davenport in an intense championship unification match. Rose entered the match as the third longest reigning NXT Women’s Champion. Satomura walked in with over a year’s worth of her respective reign.

In perhaps a shocking result, Mandy Rose pinned Davenport to secure the victory. Moreover, Mandy Rose claimed the name of Unified NXT Women’s Champion.

The closing moments of the match can be viewed below, courtesy of our play-by-play coverage:

Davenport breaks up the pin with a double stomp. Davenport lands a kamigoye. Satomura kicks out. Rose tackles Davenport and hits a few strikes. Satomura breaks up Davenport’s pin with Scorpion Rising. Before Satomura can capitalize, Rose hits Kiss from a Rose on both Davenport and Satomura. Satomura falls out of the ring. Rose pins Davenport.

Meanwhile, Nikki A.S.H. also made history at NXT Worlds Collide.

As she vied for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships, A.S.H. became the first woman in WWE to contend for all available women’s titles (24/7 Championship included). At Worlds Collide, A.S.H. looked to claim the gold with Doudrop.

Unfortunately for A.S.H., interference from Toxic Attraction crushed their chances. As the former champions stormed to the ring, A.S.H. lost focus. This allowed champions Kayden Carter and Katana Chance to capitalize on a double-team to Doudrop. Accordingly, they retained their NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Mickie James Announced Her Last Rodeo

It’s the last rodeo for Mickie James.

Last week on IMPACT Wrestling, Mickie James made a special announcement regarding her future in professional wrestling. From Dallas, Texas, James returned to the IMPACT Zone for the first time since July 14th. Following a loss to Chelsea Green, James went home. Now, she might go home for good.

Throughout an emotional address, Mickie acknowledged that this November will be 24 years since she first stepped into a wrestling ring. Furthermore, she explained that the last few years haven’t always been easy, but the fans reminded her exactly who she was.

“Over half my life, I have lived and breathed and bled and cried for this business that I love so, so much,” James declared. “The last couple years, I’ll say, it’s been a journey. It’s been a journey for me, and I’ve been going through things, some things you know about, some things you don’t, and it’s been a whirlwind. Sitting at my sister’s death bed, to being released six months later, and to be made to feel like I was thrown out with the garbage, and that I was nothing. And all those things that people used to say along the way like, ‘you don’t belong here’ and ‘you’re not good enough’ or ‘maybe you’re a little fat’ or ‘maybe you’re a little old’ or ‘washed up’. They all just started flooding back in.”

“I have to say, it was you people who reminded me, who empowered me, who inspired me, and said ‘[expletive] you’re Mickie James’.”

James continued on to detail her most recent run in IMPACT Wrestling over the last year: winning the Knockouts Championship, main-eventing Hard To Kill, then losing to Tasha Steelz and the betrayal of Chelsea Green. After the betrayal and subsequent loss to Green, James claimed she needed to go home to reassess.

Despite the initial doubts, James vowed she is “not retiring. Not tonight, not like this, not right now.” She continued to exclaim that she’s on a quest to be the best, eyeing her attention on the Knockouts Championship. However, James clarified she wanted to “earn” a shot at the gold.

Accordingly, Mickie issued an open challenge to the Knockouts division. Aiming to work her way up, James hopes to climb the ranks until she reaches the Knockouts Champion–whoever that be at the time.

But there’s a catch.

If Mickie James loses during this journey, including her potential title match, that is it. In her words, “this is the last rodeo.” James couldn’t guarantee this journey to be long or short, but she promised it would a hell of a ride.

Officially, Mickie James’ journey in professional wrestling will end one of two ways:

Knockouts World Champion – or – Mickie will go home for good.

Masha Slamovich Earns Knockouts Championship Match

Also on IMPACT Wrestling last week, Masha Slamovich and Deonna Purrazzo collided in the main event. There, the two fierce competitors battled to earn a Knockouts World Championship title shot.

Chelsea Green accompanied “The Virtuosa” Deonna Purrazzo to the ring, attempting to interfere several times in the bout. Slamovich responded with unphased resiliency. Purrazzo hit “The Russian Dynamite” with a brutal Queen’s Gambit, only to be met with a kickout. Despite their best efforts, Slamovich proved too much for VXT. Green would eat a boot off the apron, while Slamovich turned to land a Snow Blow to secure the win.

Masha Slamovich will now challenge Jordynne Grace for the Knockouts Championship at Bound For Glory on October 7th.
