Hikaru Shida: I’m Watching Marvel To Learn English, My All Out Gear Is Inspired By Dr. Strange

Hikaru Shida is using the Marvel Universe to help her learn English.

The Japanese star is one of the featured competitors in AEW’s women’s division, and she will aim to win the AEW Interim Women’s World Championship at the All Out pay-per-view. There, she will face Britt Baker, Toni Storm and Jamie Hayter.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, the former champion discussed her journey to the match, including her study of the English language. When Barrasso noted that she has quickly learned the language, Shida thanked him and described how she has been leaning on Harry Potter and Marvel as part of this process. She also stated that her gear at AEW All Out will be inspired by Doctor Strange.

“That means so much to me,” Shida said. “I still do not agree–I spend so much time preparing for a promo or interview. I am so happy to learn English. I love watching Harry Potter and reading the books, I’ve become a huge fan. Now I am watching Marvel. The gear I’m wearing on Sunday is inspired by Dr. Strange.”

When asked, Shida also shared her thoughts on AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa stepping down due to injury. She noted that she was surprised, and moving

“Yes, I was surprised. It is a huge opportunity and responsibility. It still is. For me, I want to show my skill whenever I am in the ring. The Regina di Wave title match meant so much to me because I need to be great every night as champion. I want to be an international champion for AEW, and I want to be even more aggressive when I have the crowd behind me,” she said.
