Mercedes Martinez Currently Sidelined Due To Injury

Mercedes Martinez is currently out with an injury.

During Thursday’s AEW All Out media call, WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard asked Tony Khan if there was any consideration to ensure Ring Of Honor was represented on Sunday’s AEW pay-per-view. As of now, there are not any other confirmed ROH events at this time and talent has been used on AEW’s various weekly shows.

While answering, Khan confirmed that ROH Women’s Champion Mercedes Martinez was out with an injury. He did not disclose what she was sidelined for, but said that they were waiting for her to return.

“To be honest, I want to do the best AEW show I can do this weekend for the AEW fans that involves bringing the best wrestlers in the world,” Tony Khan said. “And in my opinion, in this case, a lot of the best wrestlers in the world are champions in Ring of Honor. Mercedes Martinez, the Women’s World Champion of Ring of Honor is actually out with an injury but will be back soon. But a lot of the other Ring of Honor champions are represented on this card and in particular, FTR I think are a credit to any wrestling event they’re on including this pay-per-view. I think that’s going to be a great match with six great stars, six very different great wrestlers and one awesome trios match with some great champions on that team with TNT champ Wardlow and FTR who are the Ring of Honor World Tag Champs and of course, you mentioned Claudio and we have Wheeler Yuta in that great Casino Ladder Match.

“And I think if you’re going to put a great field of wrestlers together and fighting for the top prize in AEW, you’re going to want to bring in the best wrestlers and in this case,” Khan explained, “I do think Claudio and Yuta are two of the best and they are also champions Ring of Honor in addition to being great members of the Blackpool Combat Club here in AEW.”

Martinez won the Interim ROH Women’s Championship at Supercard of Honor in April. She later defeated lineal champion Deonna Purrazzo to unify the titles on the May 4 episode of Dynamite, and her title reign stands at 120 days at press time.

Martinez’s last match was a July 24 win over Vita VonStarr at a Northeast Wrestling event. She last worked for ROH (AEW) at Death Before Dishonor on July 23, where she retained her title over Serena Deeb.
