Kenny Omega: Reuniting With The Young Bucks Is A Pitstop On Our ‘Gigantic Road Map’

For Kenny Omega, reuniting with The Young Bucks isn’t necessarily a full-circle moment, but it allows the trio to continue their global journey throughout the wrestling world.

Omega, who had been sidelined since last November, returned on the August 17 episode of AEW Dynamite. He teamed up with Matt and Nick Jackson to defeat RUSH, Andrade El Idolo, and Dragon Lee and advance in the AEW World Trios Championship Tournament.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Omega shared his thoughts on teaming up with the Bucks again. The three men have previously tagged together in ROH, New Japan-Pro-Wrestling, and other promotions. Now, they’re back together in AEW, a company they helped launch and build from the ground up. He noted that this reunion is part of their giant road map as wrestlers, and their next bout, which will be against United Empire on the August 31 episode of AEW Dynamite, will surprise people.

“I can’t really say things are coming full-circle because AEW is such a new thing, but for me and the Bucks, it’s another pitstop on this gigantic road map we’ve created as wrestlers,” Omega said. “We’ve traveled all throughout the globe already, and even though this story may have started in Japan, we’ve already taken our battles to Scotland, to England, to PWG in California.

“And just when we thought that maybe we wouldn’t see any more matchups between AEW and New Japan, this relationship does continue after Forbidden Door. It’s great that talent is interested in coming here, and we have talent interested in making a mark there. So it’s great for Will to come with Aussie Open, who perhaps aren’t as well known to the AEW fan base as they are in other places, and people are going to be surprised by this match.”

Moving forward, Omega wants to do something special with this chapter of his career and perform in a variety of situations.

“As a performer, I want to leave behind the full spectrum of performance types and match types,” Omega said. “There’s situations where I’ll be the underdog, and situations where I’m the favorite. I plan on creating something very special in 2022 into 2023.”
