Report: WWE Had Interest In Bringing Braun Strowman Back

WWE could be gearing up for another major return in the form of Braun Strowman.

In recent weeks, Triple H has brought back stars like Johnny Gargano, Karrion Kross, Dakoa Kai, and Dexter Lumis since he was promoted to the head of WWE creative. Previous reports suggested that he’d continue to take big swings.

In an update, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reports that Strowman has been pitched or discussed for a WWE return. Sapp cited sources who noted that Strowman’s comments about independent wrestling have rubbed them the wrong way, though it’s unclear if he meant them or said them in an effort to get heat. Meanwhile, other WWE sources have stated that Strowman looks “ring ready” and that he looks better now than he did during his time with the company. Sapp noted that “people of influence” in WWE wouldn’t confirm or deny any interest in Strowman. As of this writing, it’s only clear that pitches have been made, and that he has been discussed internally.

Since his WWE release in June 2021, Strowman has only wrestled eight times, with most of these dates being with Control Your Narrative.

Strowman is a former WWE Universal Champion. He signed a seven figure deal with WWE in 2019, and while he made it to the last few months of that contract, Sapp cited sources who noted that he played “hardball” during his contract negotiations.

Additionally, Sapp confirmed Andrew Zarian’s report that WWE has interest in bringing back former NXT North American Champion Bronson Reed, also known as JONAH. Reed was a featured member of the NXT roster at the end of the Triple H era of NXT. Since his release in August 2021, he has been actively competing for several promotions, including IMPACT Wrestling and NJPW. He recently scored a big win over Kazuchika Okada during the G1 Climax 32 tournament.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
