Theory intends to show Johnny Gargano the way.
Theory and Gargano used to be stablemates in WWE NXT; during this run, the young star called the latter “Papa John” as he learned from the veteran, who was like an on-screen father to him. But Theory eventually left NXT and moved to the main roster, while Gargano subsequently departed WWE when his contract expired in December. While he was gone, Theory became a bright star on the red brand, and he captured the Money in the Bank briefcase in July.
The next month, Gargano returned to WWE on the August 22 episode of WWE RAW, where Theory confronted him. After Mr. Money in the Bank told Gargano that he could hold his briefcase and watch as he reached new heights, “Johnny Wrestling” blasted him with a superkick.
In an interview with NBC Sports Boston, Theory discussed Gargano’s return and noted that he wanted to say “Papa John”, his name for Gargano when they were in The Way, when fans chanted, “Who’s your daddy” at him after Vince McMahon’s departure. As for the way Gargano treated him on Monday, Theory vowed to show him “the way”, given the success he’s already had on RAW.
“You know what, when the crowd was chanting, ‘Who’s your daddy,’ like they always do, part of me wanted to say, ‘Papa John,'” said Theory. “But something just didn’t seem right, and I think we all see what it was. The thing is, a guy that took me under his wing and showed me the ropes and helped me out, and I admitted that. I admitted it to the world. Then he shows up on my show, though, somewhere that I’ve been paving the road, somewhere where I’ve done things that he hasn’t done.
“We all heard on RAW, all the achievements, all the dreams that he had, I’ve already done them. So why would you not wanna learn from me now? I mean, is it because of the age? It’s very rude, and as we’ve seen how it turned out, and you said it yourself, it’s jealousy, it clearly is. Because he already knows that the mountain that Theory’s on, he’ll never be able to climb it, and that’s just reality. So I guess I’m gonna have to show him the way.”
