WWE is bringing back “Road Dogg” Brian James, and he might not be coming alone.
On August 22, PWInsider reported that James is returning to WWE in an executive role. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful subsequently reported that WWE is interested in bringing back Ryan Katz, James’ podcast partner.
Katz had been a vital part of the NXT team from a creative perspective for nearly seven years before he was released in January. Sapp wrote that Katz is expected back, if he isn’t already, and he has stayed close with several people in NXT since his release. Sapp also noted that there had been rumors about Katz’s return last month, and if he hadn’t been brought back yet, WWE at least had interest in doing so.
Katz and James were part of NXT throughout its black-and-gold era. When Triple H dealt with health issues and stepped back from his duties last fall, NXT shifted its philosophies with the NXT 2.0 rebrand. The releases of Katz, James, and William Regal, among others, were widely seen as a dismantling of Triple H’s team. However, Vince McMahon retired on July 22, and Triple H was subsequently named the head of WWE creative. Meanwhile, Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan were named the new co-CEOs of the company. Since then, the new regime has been making several changes.
