The Bushwhackers Discuss Vince McMahon, Becoming A Tag Team, And More

WWE Hall of Fame tag team The Bushwhackers recently spoke The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling Podcast, where the pair discussed meeting Vince McMahon, keeping in touch with Hulk Hogan, and how they became the iconic tag team they are today.

Check out the highlights below:

On Vince McMahon:

I think he’s a genius. As far as I’m concerned, And Luke, I think he treated us great and he treated anybody great who was willing to work hard, because he was one of the hardest workers you’ve ever seen. He did work. He never stopped. His whole family were hard workers. And so if you worked hard for Vince, he looked after you. A lot of guys, especially in the wrestling business or in any show, when, when it was their time to have to pack up and leave, they didn’t like it. Cuz they thought they were there forever. But you can’t do that with talent. You can’t keep them forever. Otherwise the whole thing had become boring. You’ve gotta keep changing your talent.

On Hulk Hogan:

I lived near him and he still does signings. And then, and it’s all sold out online before you know that he goes to the store to do them. You know, it’s crazy. The lines for him are crazy still, in Clearwater beach. Now, now, mate,  I’m jumping back a few years, when we were in the NWA then. When you were in that company, you were a wrestler. When you changed to the WWF, you became a celebrity. Take you out in front of all walks of life, toy companies, sportsmen of the year dinners, other dinners for other celebrity, different parties, he’d put you in, and you know, cause he wanted to draw different audiences into our business.

On how they became The Bushwhackers:

We were working with the Rock N Roll Express in NWA and they were the hottest baby face tag team. And we just had an angle with Lex Luger and Barry Windham, and we get the, and we get the phone call when Vince rang up and said, ‘oh, you know, come work for me’ (Editors Note: I think thats what was said, but it was hard to understand) . So Luke told me. And I, and I was very excited. He wasn’t quite so excited because he’s just told we were getting a very good push from the WCW. Finally they had realized what they had and they’re gonna push us pretty big. So anyway, we go up there. They, they, they, they bring us up in the air, in the, first class, they got a limo waiting for us at the airport, with the chauffer, up to the thing. He’s (Vince) sitting in the office. Once we get escorted into the office and we sat down and he’s, you know, we’d never met him before. He had never met us. So we shook his hands and he says, guys, I tell you what he says. I would love to have you guys on board. But I’m thinking about bringing you guys in as baby faces. So I jumped on his office bench, on my hands and knees, and I went straight over to him and I give him a YAY! And I said, Vince, take a look at these faces. And we did the old, the old, uh, Sheepherder/Bushwacker look. And I said, if you think you can make money with these two face. I’m in 100%
