AEW Rampage Results (8/19/22): HOOK Takes On Zack Clayton

All Elite Wrestling will deliver an action-packed episode of AEW Rampage on August 19.

Tonight’s episode will see the AEW World Trios Championship Tournament continue, as Trustbusters go up against the Best Friends in a quarterfinals matchup. Elsewhere, the team of Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland — Swerve In Our Glory — will defend their AEW World Tag Team Championships against Private Party.

Penelope Ford will take on Athena in a singles match as well, while HOOK will also defend his FTW Championship against Zack Clayton, who is making his AEW TV debut, and Claudio Castagnoli will also appear.

The results are as follows:

  • Claudio Castagnoli opened tonight’s show, making his way out to the ring alongside ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta. After shouting out Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat in the front row, Castagnoli then issued an open challenge for next week, to which Dustin Rhodes came out and accepted.

Match 1: Swerve in Our Glory def. Private Party via pinfall

In a relatively quick title defense, Swerve to Our Glory wasted little time in coming away with a win. Despite Private Party’s early offensive flurry of attacks, it was Swerve who would get the last laugh. Late in the match, Swerve ended things with a nasty JML Driver to finish the match and give the team their first title defense as a team.

Match 2: HOOK def. Zack Clayton via pinfall

Despite promises of one of the biggest debuts ever, Zack Clayton could do nothing against the reigning FTW Champion. In an incredibly fast match, HOOK was able to drop Clayton and immediately lock him in a chokehold, to which Clayton was unable to get out of, giving HOOK his first title defense in a stellar win.

Match 3: Buddy Matthews def. Serpentico via pinfall

In a previously unannounced match, Matthews made short work of Serpentico, taking him down with a quick slam. It was a solid match for Matthews ahead of the clash in next week’s AEW Trios World Championship Tournament quarterfinal match between Dark Order and House of Black.

Match 4: Athena def. Penelope Ford via pinfall

In an incredible match between two up and coming superstars in AEW’s Women’s division, it was Athena who continued her rise through the ranks, taking down Penelope Ford late with a stellar flying, spinning slam.

Match 5: Best Friends def. Trustbusters via pinfall

In the closing match of tonight’s episode of AEW Rampage, the Best Friends were able to advanced into the next round of the AEW World Trios Championship Tournament thanks to some late help from none other than Danhausen and Sonny Kiss. Late in the match, Sonny Kiss — who had come down to the ring with the team — tripped up Parker Boudreaux on the ring.

At the same time, Slim J had gotten into the ring, and was transfixed by Danhausen, who placed a “curse” on the superstar. Too distracted to do anything, Slim J was hit with a slam by Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta, while Orange Cassidy knocked Ari Daivari off the ropes before all three members of Best Friends landed a group attack on Slim J for the win.
