EC3 is now working with the NWA, so he will once again wrestle for a three-letter brand.
WWE released EC3 in a wave of budget cuts in April 2020, and in addition to eventually competing for IMPACT Wrestling and Ring of Honor, he focused on controlling his narrative. He first produced standalone events and later evolved the project into a promotion, Control Your Narrative.
During an appearance on the NWA’s weekly podcast, EC3 was asked about the response of some fans who argue that he isn’t “controlling his narrative” now that he’s in the NWA. He responded by admitting that he became a three-letter brand during his struggle to fight against all of them.
“First off, I’ve never said I’m not a hypocrite, and when I talk about three-letter brands, I actually became one when I was railing against at them, so yeah, I’m a liar. I’m full of s—, who cares? The narrative’s not controlled per se because what I really believe with comments and social media, and the dopamine hits and the quick responses, oftentimes, it’s a vocal minority to say the least.
“So who’s boldly watching without their finger on the button commenting and is silent? I feel the people that are silent don’t wanna be silent anymore, and what I’m realizing within wrestling, within this industry, there’s more of us than them.”
EC3 also described how he and NWA president Billy Corgan have a similar mindset, both in general and specifically regarding the wrestling business. He noted that they are both focused on trying to reach fans by providing substantial stories through the form of wrestling.
“Your president and I are very like-minded,” said EC3. ‘I don’t know if you know, but we’re both Pisces and we share the same birthday, so we’re both masterminds of creative ingenuity. We also see the landscape of wrestling and how it’s changed and how it’s the microcosm of one sect of fans have totally, completely forgone the millions upon millions that watched in years past. So trying to reach out to them and provide them something with context and substance and character and story.”
