Doudrop will team with Nikki A.S.H. in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament, and she’s excited about the quest to win the gold.
Although often paired in tag team matches in recent months, Doudrop and A.S.H. weren’t officially a tag team. However, the duo pitched some ideas for them to work together. Now, these two will officially team up in the tournament.
In speaking with Inside The Ropes, Doudrop revealed how exactly herself and A.S.H. cemented their partnership.
“Kind of a column A and column B,” Doudrop explained. “So, me and Nikki had kind of noticed that we were being put together in matches a lot, whether it was tags or whether it was six on six and stuff like that. We kind of find ourselves together a lot, but nobody had really said anything specific, or was like, ‘Oh, you guys are a tag team.’ It kind of just seemed to like, gravitate that way naturally. We kind of assume that maybe people did think that we were a team now with us both being Scottish and having a long history together.”
“I’ve known Nikki for as long as I’ve been wrestling, which is, 15 years now,” she continued. “We actually started one week apart at the same wrestling school. So we really have come up together. And although we were mostly against each other in that time, it was still all the time that we’d worked together and formed a bond. Then when I came to main roster, she was obviously one of the people who helped me out the most.”
Doudrop went on to explain the bond she created with A.S.H. and how that lead to creative pitches for them to be a tag team.
“She knew how strange this world would be for me and everything that I would have to face because she’d done herself before. So she really did help me. So we just, from there, that bond kind of got more cemented than I think. People just seem to think, ‘oh, you guys are together now’. So when it came to like coming up time for WrestleMania and I didn’t have anything, I’d know why. But Nikki had some ideas to maybe get us on the show and she said ‘I have some ideas. Do you want to come and pitch them with me?’
“I was like, ‘Well, look, I don’t think it would go ahead because I have to go away for a month. But why don’t we go and ask?’ Then we went and had to talk about it. Because of me not being there, it didn’t really work out. But I think that was what cemented the ‘oh, you guys are an established team now’ and took it from there really.”
As previously mentioned, Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H. will compete in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament. When asked about her thoughts heading into the tournament, Doudrop expressed her excitement.
“I’m actually really excited for this tag tournament. We’ve got some old faces and some new faces which I always love it when old and new collide. There’s just an array of people to batter and new moves to see. It’s going to be exciting”
