When the time comes, Eric Young wants to retire on his terms.
Young, who has been wrestling since 1998, remains a featured member of the IMPACT Wrestling roster. He recently headlined the Bound For Glory, where he challenged Josh Alexander for the IMPACT World Championship. Young has done it all in wrestling, and he still loves it, but he knows that the end of his in-ring career might be closer than the beginning.
In an interview with Jim Alexander of Reel Talker, Young shared his thoughts on his potential retirement, noting that he doesn’t want to be forced out of the business. He made it clear that he loves and respects it too much for that. He stated that, once he’s done wrestling, he wants to go live in an RV with his life.
“I don’t want to be forced out, Young said. “For me, I love it too much and I respect it too much. I’m not going to be 65, and trying to do this at at a lower level. I’m just not going to do it. I have too much pride in my body of work. I have too much pride in myself and what wrestling means to me. And that’s singular.
“You know, it’s art in the end. And you if you want to do it, Ric Flair’s going to wrestle in a couple of weeks from me. And so it would be I hope everything goes well and I hope he’s healthy after…I’m not going to be that guy. I want to sell my house and live in an RV with my dogs and my wife. You know, you never hear from me or see from me again.”
Time will tell what Young’s future holds from here on out.
