CM Punk made his surprise return to All Elite Wrestling last night in the closing segment of the AEW Dynamite special, Quake by the Lake.
According to Figthful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), the working plan is for CM Punk to face Jon Moxley at AEW All Out in a World Championship unification match.
The internal hope from those Sapp heard from after the injury was that Punk could return to the company for All Out, which takes place in his hometown of Chicago.
CM Punk’s return was able to remain a secret last night, and that is most likely because All Elite Wrestling set up a restricted backstage area at Dynamite last night.
Sapp stated that the news of Punk’s return was kept private from staff and a good portion of the roster. To the point that some people involved in the main event segment didn’t even know about his return ahead of time.
