Johnny Gargano‘s real foe in WWE NXT isn’t who you think it is.
The former NXT Champion had a bitter feud with his former tag team partner, Ciampa, and their rivalry culminated in the “One Final Beat” match in 2020. Due to this remarkable long-term story, the two men will always be linked together.
But during the “What’s NeXT” live stage show at Starrcast V, which aired on FITE TV, Gargano named the little graphic at the bottom of the screen as his enemy, noting that whenever it showed up, like the moments prior to Ciampa turning on him at TakeOver Chicago, it meant he was screwed.
“We always considered that like the, we call it the lower third but it’s like the bug at the corner of the screen,” said Gargano. “I always say, and I say it many times, nothing good ever happens when that little bug comes up, to me especially. Everyone talks about my feud with Tommaso, my stuff with Adam Cole, my feud with Andrade. No, my real feud in NXT was with that little logo at the bottom of the screen.
“Whenever that came up, Johnny Gargano was screwed, let me tell you. But we had that idea based on Marvel movies, like the credits would roll and then be over, then the post-credit would come up. You’d think the show would be over, and then you get an added little bonus. So that was always our idea with that.”
