Kurt Angle On Vince McMahon: We All Make Mistakes, He’s An ‘Excellent Individual’

Kurt Angle says that Vince McMahon is a human being who makes mistakes, but he’s exceptional person.

McMahon, the former WWE Chairman and CEO, announced his retirement on July 22. He is currently the subject of an investigation by the WWE Board of Directors, stemming from allegations that he paid over $12 million over 16 years to former WWE employees to cover up sexual misconduct. After he announced his retirement, an 8-K filing by WWE revealed that, “the Company has identified Unrecorded Expenses totaling approximately $14.6 million” that are linked to McMahon.

In an interview with Graham GSM Matthews of Bleacher Report, Angle described how he texted McMahon after he announced his retirement and told him that he loved him. The WWE Hall of Famer then noted that, like everyone else, McMahon makes mistakes, but he’s an “excellent individual.”

“I texted him five days ago, when he decided to retire,” said Angle. “I just said, ‘Love you, Vince.’ I didn’t wanna go into detail, what happened, this and that. He said, ‘I love you too.’ That’s all we said to each other. Vince has always been kind of a father figure to me. We did have a falling out in 2006, but we mended that in 2017, and I love the guy to death. He’s such a great individual. We all make mistakes as human beings, and Vince is no different, but he’s an excellent individual.”

Earlier in the interview, Angle was asked about McMahon’s retirement and the new regime. He responded by sharing his belief that the former chairman will stay involved with the company.

“Well they’re making adjustments,” said Angle.  “It is sad to see Vince gone. He’s what made the WWE tick. He always was the guy, he will continue to be the guy, regardless of whether he’s there or not. I’m not worried about the company. I am a little bit concerned that Vince isn’t gonna be there, but I have all the faith in the world that Stephanie and Triple H are gonna be able to carry that company.

“I honestly believe, and I don’t know if I should say this or not, but I think that Vince is gonna be behind the scenes. I don’t think he’s ever gonna let go of the product. He will send messages to Triple H and Stephanie and make sure that he’s involved, no doubt about it. I believe that in my mind.”
