It seems like Ric Flair won’t be coming off the top rope during his final match after all.
“The Nature Boy” previously guaranteed that he would do just that when he laces up his boots one last time at the “Ric Flair’s Last Match” event on July 31.
But speaking with Marc Raimondi of ESPN, his daughter Charlotte recalled how she told him that it’s not necessary, so she wouldn’t let him dive from the top rope to the floor, which he had been planning to do.
“A lot of our men and women in all companies miss those all the time,” said Charlotte. “I was like, ‘No, not needed, not necessary. Wasn’t necessary in your prime, isn’t necessary now. So, no.'”
Jay Lethal, who has been closely working with the WWE Hall of Famer and helping him train for his in-ring return, noted that Ric has wanted to do some bumps that left him “terrified.”
“Sometimes he’d want a private [workout] in the morning and he’d wake up before me,” Lethal said. “I’d look at my phone and I’ve got a voicemail. ‘Wake up, m—–f—er. I want to get in the ring. Suplex me off the top.’ I’m like, ‘What?!’ And that’s the end of the message.
“One of the first things he wanted to do was a suplex off the top or a clothesline over the top to the outside. I’m terrified. I’m like, ‘Why do you need to do that?'”
Regardless of what ultimately happens in his final match, “The Nature Boy” is nervous because he’s determined to deliver the performance that the fans are expecting.
“I’m very nervous, because I’ve got to perform,” Flair said. “I need to walk out to the ring and be regular. I have to do some stuff I used to be able to do.”
