Happy Corbin Looks Back On Being Teammates With Pat McAfee, Previews Their SummerSlam Match

Happy Corbin is determined to stop Pat McAfee and shut him up at WWE SummerSlam.

The former NFL teammates, who have been feuding for the last several weeks, will collide in a singles bout at “The Biggest Party of the Summer”. For McAfee, this will be his first match since he faced Theory and subsequently Vince McMahon, at WWE WrestleMania 38.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Corbin previewed the match by noting that it’s a classic battle of good versus evil.

“There was no foreshadowing of it then,” said Corbin. “Pat’s went on to have success in everything he’s done. This is an age-old battle of good versus evil. Pat will try to find success in Nashville at SummerSlam, and I’ll do everything I can to stop him.”

Looking back on their days as teammates, Corbin noted that he and McAfee stayed in touch, even when their journeys in football (and beyond) took them down separate paths.

“I was a bubble practice squad guy, and Pat had an apartment,” Corbin said. “At the time, I didn’t want to get a place or sign a lease. It wasn’t my kind of football with the Colts. Back then, I had a 19.5-inch neck and weighed 330 pounds.

“I was a hard-nosed, head down-eyes closed pulling guard, and they had me at left tackle. I could play left tackle, but I was a better inside player just because of my physicality. So I was afraid I was going to get let go. I stayed with Pat and we’d golf almost every day. We were pretty tight then, and we stayed in touch.”

Years later, Corbin and McAfee now find themselves somewhat reunited in WWE, but they have quickly wound up on opposing sides. The former King of the Ring credited McAfee with the way he connects with the fans, but he emphasized that he’s going to crush the inspiration McAfee is trying to provide.

“Pat connects with people all over the world,” Corbin says. “He’s found success in everything he’s done. He is showing that you don’t need to be 6’7″ to do this. He gives people hope that they can find success in life. I’m a big, salty, angry guy. At SummerSlam, I’m going to take away all that hope and inspiration.”

Lastly, the SmackDown star noted that, at the end of the day, he’s simply going run right through McAfee once the bell rings.

“It isn’t complicated,” Corbin said. “Look at the stats. Pat’s a former NFL punter. I was an offensive lineman. I’m going to run right through him at SummerSlam and shut him up once and for all.”
