Gunther Highlights The Biggest Differences Between SmackDown And NXT

Gunther says at the end of the day, wrestling is wrestling.

During an appearance on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Gunther spoke about the biggest takeaways from working on SmackDown compared to NXT. The current Intercontinental Champion said that NXT is a bit more structured and felt like SmackDown is more relaxed due to the experience of the respective rosters.

“I think at the end of the day, when it comes to what happens in the ring, wrestling is wrestling. For me at least, it doesn’t matter if it’s in front of 50 people or if it’s in front of 100,000 people. What obviously makes a difference is all the happenings around. There are way more people involved. A lot more stuff has to happen in a shorter amount of time.

“It’s not too different, but it’s obviously just, NXT is a little bit stricter organized because the people involved are less experienced, I would say, the talent and stuff, while it’s a little bit more relaxed on SmackDown, from my experience. Everybody’s way more experienced and can get all the stuff done, one after the other. Everything has its little routine, so it’s a little bit more relaxed in terms of nobody’s really tense or freaked out about what they have to do.”

Gunther, formerly known as Walter, was the longest-reigning NXT UK Champion at 870 days. He made his SmackDown debut in April and won the Intercontinental Championship on June 10. Gunther previously spoke about his role in WWE, noting that he didn’t come here to be in the middle and wants to be the top guy of WWE in the long run.
