Samoa Joe: I Appreciate Championships, But My Goal Is To Entertain The Fans

The goal remains the same for Samoa Joe.

The veteran currently holds the ROH World Television Championship, and he has reestablished himself as a prominent player in both AEW and ROH, less than a year after he was forced to vacate the NXT Championship due to injury.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, “The Samoan Submission Machine” described how he remains focused on entertaining the fans, regardless of titles and accolades.

“It’s the same goal it’s always been for me,” said Joe. “Championships are a hallmark of this industry, and I’ll always appreciate them and never downplay them, but my litmus test for whether I’m satisfied is based around the crowd. If we’re producing content and people are being entertained, then I’ve hit my goal. I want people to be entertained. That’s my focus.

“So you can hang championships on the wall or line up trophies all over your den, but this is truly measured by the enjoyment of the people who come to see you. As long as that is maintained at a high level, I’ll be happy with what I’m doing.”

Joe has dealt with a number of obstacles in recent years; from dealing with health issues to getting released by WWE twice, he has been on a challenging journey. Now, to reign as the ROH World Television Champion seems “wild”, but it doesn’t surprise Joe because plenty of unpredictable things have happened throughout his career.
