Please don’t call Eddie Kingston a locker room leader. That’s a job title he doesn’t want in All Elite Wrestling.
All Elite Wrestling’s Eddie Kingston recently sat down with Scott Fishman of TV Insider to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the idea that he has evolved into a locker room leader within the company, Kingston was adamant that he doesn’t want to be one.
“No! I don’t want to be a locker room leader. I just want to do my job,” Eddie Kingston said. “That’s what I love about our locker room is we have more people in the locker room who just want to do their job and do it correctly. You’ll always have locker room drama, but it’s usually stomped out because the locker room is filled with pros. We have enough pros where everything is set straight. I’m not a locker room leader. I’m just the loudest one. I’m not a leader. I just got a big mouth. So if I have a problem with someone or something, everyone hears it.”
When asked about how the atmosphere of the company is backstage compared to how he debuted, Kingston said that competition has stepped up.
“It’s getting bigger. Competition has stepped up,” Eddie Kingston said. “Either you force the hand or get left behind. That’s any business or sport or any entertainment. If you don’t step your game up and someone new comes along, you’re going to fall back. Then it’s nobody’s fault but your own.”
Eddie Kingston has had a very long career in professional wrestling before making it to the big time in All Elite Wrestling. Reflecting on his career, Kingston realizes he was his own worst enemy.
“A lot of self-inflicted wounds,” Eddie Kingston admitted. “I was my own worst enemy. I realize it now.”
Although Kingston has gone through some dark times, he says they give him an appreciation for where he is in his life now.
“Without a doubt. I would not change one thing,” Eddie Kingston admitted. “I don’t look back. I look back on my deathbed. You’re only as good as your last match. I was taught that very early on.”
