Paul Wight wants to get back in an AEW ring but he knows that he’d only be enhancing the show instead of stealing the spotlight.
In an interview with Muscle Man Malcolm for The Sportster, Paul Wight spoke about his in-ring career and the possibility of him wrestling at All Out 2022. Wight made his AEW in-ring debut at last year’s event against QT Marshall, and he’s competed in three other matches since then. Wight says he’s talked with Tony Khan about stepping back into the ring at some point, but there’s so much talent right now that it has to make sense before it happens.
“We’re definitely looking… it’s funny, we’ve got so much incredible young talent in AEW, and we brought in so much incredible talent between Bryan Danielson and CM Punk and Christian [Cage] and these incredible talents that have came up, that there’s always opportunity to work with that younger talent and get out there. I’ve been really focusing on the commentary part of it. If anything comes up, storyline-wise,” Wight noted, “there’s a few things that Tony Khan and I have been working together on — that’s off the books — that we’re trying to find the right time to put it in. And then we’ll introduce it.
“But at this stage of the game, to be honest with you, for me, it’s stepping in, having a little bit of fun, playing around, not really stealing the spotlight from anyone else because I don’t have to. But it’s just enhancing the show, maybe making the show a little bit better if I can and lack of a better term, popping a crowd. But our shows have been so on fire and so good, I haven’t really needed to do anything. Jon Moxley’s been incredible, Chris Jericho’s been incredible, Adam Cole, all the guys. Everybody has done such a great job. Wardlow has been stepping up huge. Our women’s division now with Toni Storm and Dr. Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa, like all those girls are kicking butt and taking names,” Wight said. “Everybody’s doing really well, so hopefully yeah, there’ll be some chance for me to get in and mix it up down the road.”
