Alexa Bliss On Charlotte Flair: She Took Me Under Her Wing, I’m Glad One Of My Debut Matches Was Against Her

Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair have fought in the ring a number of times over the years, but “The Queen” played an influential part in the early days of the fan-favorite’s career.

The two women came up through the NXT system at roughly the same time; Flair wrestled her first match on TV in 2013, while Bliss made her televised debut in 2014. Flair was already established by then, but they still formed a connection behind the scenes.

During an interview with Jinny for BT Sport, Bliss looked back on her time in NXT and credited coach Sara Amato (Sara Del Ray) for helping her. She then noted that Flair took her under her wing.

“Definitely our coach Sara Amato, she was the one that pulled me aside and she was like, because I told her, I went to her first and I said I don’t know I’m doing. I said I’m not gonna pretend like I know what I doing, and I’m not gonna pretend like you can’t teach me something. I was like I need help, I need to know what I’m doing wrong, what I’m doing right. And she always had my back, and then Charlotte Flair as well.

“Because we were starting around the same time, and Charlotte definitely took me under her wing, she was that person. She would let me ride to the shows with her and Mojo, I would ride to the shows with them, and we became a very close group. I was really happy that one of my debut matches was against Charlotte and it was kinda a little full-circle moment.”

When asked about their shared backgrounds in gymnastics, Bliss stated that they also bonded over working out.

“Yeah, I mean I feel like any time you have something in common with someone else, it’s an automatic bond, and we both loved working out a lot at the time,” said Bliss. “And eventually the other girls warmed up, but definitely the bond of immediately having something in common helps a lot. And yeah I think we were just both at the time nervous to be there, and that kinda helps too.”

Bliss recently returned to WWE TV, and she has regained her status as a featured member of the RAW Women’s Division. Meanwhile, Flair has been absent since she lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Ronda Rousey at WWE WrestleMania Backlash, as she took time off for her wedding and her honeymoon.
