Trevor Murdoch: The NWA Treats Me Right; This Is Where I Belong, Where I’ll Retire

Trevor Murdoch has found his home in the National Wrestling Alliance, and he doesn’t plan to go anywhere else.

Murdoch captured the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship for the second time at the Alwayz Ready pay-per-view on June 12; he has been one of the faces of the company since he arrived in 2019. Given his successful run with the company, it’s fair to wonder whether he’d consider returning to WWE or signing with another promotion at some point.

During an interview with the Wrestling Perspective PodcastMurdoch made it clear that he’s happy in the NWA, and he believes it’s where he belongs. He noted that WWE and AEW are great in their own way, but he wants to stay in the NWA for the rest of his career as a wrestler.

“Man, fellas, this is Cinderella has found [his] shoe,” said Murdoch. “When I was a young guy, I was open to all that, like whoever will pay me the most and push me. NWA treats me right. When I’m in the ring, I feel like that’s where I’m supposed to be. When I watch the program, I feel like that’s what I’m supposed to be doing. This is where Trevor Murdoch is supposed to be, right here. And at the end of the day, when the NWA says hey Trevor, we’re done with you in front of the camera. That’s it, fellas. This is where I’m finishing my career, in the NWA.

“Because in my personal opinion, I won’t be able to do anything to top what I’ve done just in the short time that I’ve been here. I’m a tried and true NWA. I don’t want to go to AEW. I don’t wanna go to WWE. I think that they’re great in their own perspectives, but Trevor Murdoch fits in the NWA, and I’m happy here. So that’s where I’m gonna stay. This is where I’ll end it all.

In the past, AEW and NWA collaborated on a number of occasions. With the way AEW has worked with a number of promotions, some fans have wondered Murdoch stepping through the forbidden door was a possibility at some point. When asked, the champion noted that there had been talks between the two sides, but they didn’t go anywhere.

“There was some discussions with AEW, but I think they kinda fizzled out pretty quick because they were talking about the Forbidden Door, especially with some guys getting injured,” said Murdoch. “But I think that didn’t last very long. I’m really not inquiring. I’m focused on the NWA and being the representative for the NWA.”
