Sting is happy that Tony Khan asked him to come to All Elite Wrestling so he could play in the game a little while longer.
The Icon Sting recently spoke with The Schmo to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about what brought him back to professional wrestling after retiring in 2016, Sting admitted it came down to a “love of game” and a phone call.
“You know what, just love of game and a phone call,” Sting said. “I mean, you got to have love of game, of course. But Tony Khan called me and asked me if I wanted to come back and play for a little while longer. And I said alright, let me just try this out, and here I am.”
Sting was asked to give his Mount Rushmore of professional wrestling, but he refused to put himself on it.
“I’m not gonna put myself in there,” Sting began. “I mean, obviously, you’d have to have Hulk Hogan in there. Obviously, you’d have to have Ric Flair in there. I think you got to have The Rock in there. Mount Rushmore, you said, right? Stone Cold.”
When asked if there were any similarities between WCW and All Elite Wrestling, Sting said while sometimes it’s reminiscent of the old days, it’s also completely different and new.
“I mean, of course, this is wrestling, so it’s gonna be reminiscent of those old days for sure,” Sting said. “But it is completely different and new, you know, a whole new generation of wrestlers, and you know, I could be dad to more than half the guys in here. Maybe even granddad. But I’m grateful that they have the level of respect that they have for their elders. And somebody like me, who’s tried to come back and play in the game a little while longer, and the fans. Oh, man, you just can’t beat the fans.”
