Miro is all in with All Elite Wrestling.
Fightful previously reported that “The Redeemer” re-signed with AEW, and he recently confirmed the news. In an interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Miro discussed his decision to stay with the company, and he emphasized that he enjoys working there. He also highlighted the creative freedom that company president Tony Khan gives him.
“They wanted me to sign a long-term deal for a reason, and I signed long-term for a reason,” said Miro. “It’s a place where I can be creative and free, and now that’s what you’re seeing on-screen. The ball is in my court, and my boss, Tony Khan, let me have that and said, ‘Hey, go do you.’ And I feel that played a big role into my decision of being here. Because everybody watching AEW knows that I’m a world champion, I know it. And I would be short-changing myself and TK calling that I’m not that. And I walk around with that mentality as well, so I don’t want to sit around and collect a check. I want to create, to evolve and become a world champion.
“But before that, I’m gonna have to focus on the All-Atlantic Championship, which is even bigger than the world championship. But yeah that’s it man, I love this place, and Tony Khan believes in me. He lets me do me. He doesn’t have to be involved with every single thing. And I love that. I love working with him, I love the company. I love the stacked roster that we have.”
“The Redeemer” then noted that, because AEW has such a stacked roster, he doesn’t always get a lot of television time, but he always aims to maximize his appearances.
“The opportunity for me to, almost like 99% of these people that I’m fighting now, it’s for the first time,” said Miro. “We’ve never wrestled before, and I love their challenges. I love it every single time I step my foot into the ring, and with the little time I have. Sometimes like I said, it’s a stacked roster, you see that. Sometimes I have 30 seconds, 45 seconds, but I make the most of it every single time. And that’s what it’s about. It’s not about having great matches or having 20-30 minute matches that are great. We only have so much television, and it’s about what do you do with those 30 seconds that you have, 45 seconds that you have? And this is where I excel the most.”
Miro also looked back on signing a short-term deal with the company; he described how he gave Khan a “discount”, as he knew that he’d be able to prove his worth by the time the deal was up.
“I gave Tony Khan a discount,” said Miro. “I have him a discount. I told him Tony I’ll sign for this money because it’s the pandemic. But after that year and a half, we’re coming strong. I knew that he’s signing a wrong guy. He’s signing Twitch guy, he’s signing a Twitch guy, he’s basing his opinions on my Twitch. And that’s why the whole thing with Kip started. And I knew that’s not me, I knew that’s just not who I am. I knew once this year and half was over, I’m gonna show him who I am and what I’ve capable of. And we’re gonna sit down and talk like men for men’s money. That’s exactly what happened.”
