Toni Storm Would Like To Return To Stardom: ‘That Would Be Really Cool’

Toni Storm will compete at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, but she wants to literally walk through the Forbidden Door.

On Sunday, Storm will challenge Thunder Rosa for the AEW Women’s World Championship in what will be the only women’s match on the card. The fan-favorite star has plenty of experience wrestling all over the world, and at some point, she’d like to go back to Japan, where she once had a successful run with Stardom.

In an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Storm discussed her potential return to Japan and noted that working with AEW makes appearing in other promotions a possibility. While she’d like to visit her friends in Japan, she noted that she wasn’t sure how much she’d be able to do as a full-time AEW wrestler.

“The good thing about AEW is you are able to go outside and do more things that aren’t AEW, said Storm. “So I think there is potential for me to go and revisit Stardom and make an appearance there. I’m not sure how much I would be able to get out there because I’m full-time with AEW, but there is potential that could happen. Hopefully it does because I’d like to go and see all my friends back there.

“Stardom was a place I didn’t realize I had grown really close to. I had quite the life in Japan and I don’t want that to be gone forever. I want to revisit that. That would be really cool if that was an option.”

Given the crossover nature of Forbidden Door, many fans hoped to see Rosa defend her title against a renowned Japanese women’s wrestler. Instead, she’ll face Storm, a fellow member of the AEW roster, though she has experience with Stardom. Storm addressed this dynamic by saying that while having a Stardom talent compete on the show would have been ideal, she pointed out that a number of factors probably got in the way.

“I’m sure the ideal plan would have been to have a girl come over from Stardom but I do believe they have a pay-per-view on that day and also, like VISAs and stuff I would imagine with COVID – I don’t know, ” said Storm. “The best they’ve got is Toni Storm [laughs] don’t worry, I was in Stardom. Leave it with me!”

During her previous run with Stardom, Storm won the SWA World Championship, and she also held the World of Stardom Championship. She won the Stardom Year-End Award for MVP in 2017.
