Tony Khan: We’ve Discussed The Possibility Of Forbidden Door 2 Based On The Success We’ve Already Had

On June 26, All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling will team up for the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, a special interpromotional show that will showcase top stars from both companies, and AEW president Tony Khan says there have already been discussions about the sequel.

AEW and NJPW have increasingly worked together over the last year, and heading into the pay-per-view, several noteworthy names have appeared on AEW programming to set the stage for the crossover event, which will be held in the United Center. Given how quickly the show sold-out, it’s already fair to wonder about Forbidden Door 2.

During the media call before the pay-per-view, Khan stated that the possibility of the sequel “is to be expected”, given the success the show in the early stages.

“Yes, absolutely,” said Khan. “I’ve thought a lot about it, and we’ve already discussed the possibility of Forbidden Door 2 based on the success already we’ve had with this event selling well over $1 million dollars in tickets. And now because we’ve opened up some seats with the cool stage we put in, I think we can get more fans in so there a few seats left in Chicago but it was sold out, and we’ve opened up more seats, but they’re going quickly.

“So I don’t know. I think it’s been so successful of an event that we have to plan to do it. I think a sequel is to be expected. And it would be great to get some of those wrestlers back, but who knows? Next year, you can always have people get injured.”
