Mike Bennett Didn’t Know He Needed It, But He Found Closure At Slammiversary

Mike Bennett says he got more out of Slammiversary than he expected.

Sunday night’s Slammiversary pay-per-view saw Mike Bennett team with Honor No More against the IMPACT Originals, and he wore some familiar ring gear to commemorate the match. Bennett wore a gold jacket and trunks, the same gear he wore as “The Miracle” during his first run with the company.

Bennett says he found closure in Nashville, noting how he’s grown since the last time he wore that attire.

“Slammiversary was special to me. The minute I put on my old Miracle gear I knew I was no longer that person. My first run at @impactwrestling I was at my most sick. As weird as it sounds Slammiversary was closure for me. It was something that I needed that I had no idea I needed,” Bennett wrote.

Bennett has been open about his battle with addiction, which he says was at its worst when he worked for IMPACT Wrestling between 2016 and 2017. Bennett and his wife, Maria Kanellis-Bennett, would later sign with WWE in 2017, making his on-air debut as Mike Kanellis at that year’s Money In The Bank pay-per-view. Shortly after his debut, Bennett publicly confirmed his opioid addiction. He has been sober for nearly five years and credits Maria with helping him get clean while they both continued to work for WWE.
